Our Biography

Our next companion dog was a black male by the name of LUCAS. He was a real love and ours on earth for 10 years. Then there was our beautiful red headed showgirl Christy. Her career began our first addiction to the show ring in 1992. She was the one that only needed one major to finish.
By now we were beginning to take this whole thing seriously. We needed a REAL show dog. It was at this time that we were introduced to someone who would later become a good friend, Kris Ashton, breeder of MAGIC. Kelly Marquis picked MAGIC, a red male out of a litter of eleven, nine of which were males. What a good eye! He was what SPECIALS are made of and LIVED to show. Kelly finished him at 8 mo. 14 days old. He won his first BISS at 10 months old at Pilgrim DPC under breeder/judge Jim Briley. He had presence. He eyes just sparkled with that “look at me attitude”. Next his career was launched with Shirley Boxer at the lead. SPECIAL a Dobe at that age? Impossible, right? Not if you believe in MAGIC. Before he was two, he received his first of four invitations to compete in TOP Twenty holding rank # 10. (Then #3)
Well, needless to say it was a carpet ride of a lifetime, 1996-2000 with 3 BIS, 20 BISS & 200 BOB. His most spectacular BIS was at the Providence K.C. Dog Show in 2002. We wanted to gear up our Veteran Dobe for the Nationals with his new handler Gerry Mull. A seven year old Dobe winning BIS? Impossible, unless you “Believe In Magic.” Thank you so much for this great honor Madeleine Fish. It was also Gerry's first BIS.
Well, Magic was fed up with retirement after three brief days so we decided to do obedience. What fun learning with Kris and someone else who befriended us, Len Gadomski. MAGIC was amazing. Once he learned the routine he never forgot it or did it wrong. Despite the fact that MOM wasn’t too sure what she was doing in the ring, she just followed Magic and listened to her heart. He scored 199 on his first leg. Three shows later he had his CD and was training for his CDX when he was diagnosed with DCM. Thanks to the assistance of Jaquie DiCenzo, better known as the Godmother, owner of Raquel, a Magic daughter, we imported an experimental drug from Australia by the name of Pimobendan and met Cardiologist Dr. Nancy Morris, who just loved the Magic Man. We kept him going for a productive year until the good Lord called for him at the age of 8 ˝. He was a great ambassador of the breed.
There have been other champions such as a red girl named SAMBA and a red boy named SHAUWN but first let me tell you about that French-Canadian woman who was chasing us around the show grounds in 1998 saying that her pedigree would go well with Magic’s. Yes, that was Francoise Allard of FABERT Dobermans. She taught us that you do not breed to the dog that is in the limelight all the time but more importantly breed for good health and a compatible pedigree. Well, I guess we did good because SHAUWN, Fabert n Magis Lord of Ilusion broke all AKC records by becoming the youngest Dobe AKC Champion at 7 mo. 4 days old. He has produced 7 or more Canadian Champions and Multi BPIS , BOB & group winners.
Now there are some very promising SPREE X SHAUWN kids out there. 3 American AKC Champions. Sergio is now a service dog and has won Tracey's heart.
From the repeat breeding, REX, Ch. Magis Bierre Maretti , owned by Jeff Flynn and co-owned by us earned his first 4 point major at 7 mo. old and finished his championship at 14 months by winning Winners or BOW at his last 5 consecutive shows including a 3 point major at the Pilgrim DPC Specialty on 06/03/05 and finished the next day at Ladies Dog Club.Rex has made it to the Specials ring RONA, Magis Carona Extra, sister of Rex first caught the public eye when handled by her Dad she won Best Puppy in Match at 3 months old, She finished her championship by winning WB/BOW for a 5 point Major at the Tappan Zee DPC Specialty in Oct. 05. Rona will be bred in the near future. Thank you Kelly for the fine job you do with our kids in the States and thank you Francoise Allard and Myriam Ruel for your accomplishments in Canada.
There is no greater joy than being a breeder of these fine KIDS and sharing the joys and sorrows that life brings your way. JIM is in charge of the deliveries and I am in charge of finding good homes for our kids and MAGIC is in charge of watching down upon us and blessing us with more “Magic Moments” to come.
OOPS! Let’s not forget the Chinese Crested boys Joseph and Michael. Jim titled them both himself. Joseph fathered 4 champions in his first litter and hopes to become a DAD again soon! These little guys keep waiting for the day in which they will grow up to be Dobermans. All of our kids live in our home. We do not operate a kennel. We are just one big Magis family located in Mattapoisett MA, 62 miles south of Boston near Cape Cod!
Pilgrim Doberman Pinscher Club, Doberman Pinscher Club Of America, Conneticut River Working Group Association and Wampanoag Kennel Club
